Is it possible to fake your Analytics results? My opposition put a large banner up in the local movie house saying they had 2.2 million hits last year. (its a lie) I know its because I started the beginning of the year with my own website and did a lot of research on them before I began. My lawyers visited them and they showed "Google Stats" to proof it. I requested a copy of the stats to see but before go any further I need to know if they could have faked it.

I would also like to ask for help getting to the top of Google. If you have any way I can make it to the top faster let me know.

Well, the problem is probably that they say they had 2.2 Million HITS.
Lets say a site has a lot of icons, images, external javascript, css stylesheets, etc then the loading of each element will count as a hit.The loading of a page can then easily cause 50 hits or so.

The problem is that hits are only tracked if one uses server logs and analyses these using a log analyzer. Google analytics does not track hits, as it uses a javascript include to track a visitor to a page and can not track the loading of images or other externally loaded elements. Furthermore it is a quite useless metric and Google Analytics does not supply this information.

It is thus very weird that they stated this. If they mean pageviews, or unique visitors then they are either lying as you say or have a successful site. I don't know what lawyers have to do with this though? Are you going to sue them for having a successful site?

On your second question, I can only say that you should get more backlinks as they will improve your ranking in google. Make them contain the anchor text Upington and you will soon rise in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). See what pages link to your competitor and try to get backlinks from those pages aswell.
