 right-click to save downloads
I have a site with quite a lot of downloads on it. I am tracking each click on these download links but was wandering what happens when somebody uses, right-click "save target as" to download a file. Is that tracked as wel?
I don't think this is currently the case. Is there any work around? Shoudl I alter my site structure or is there a function within Microsoft Adcenter Analytics?

You might want to think about having automated or special download pages for your files. This will not change the problem, but you will at least see when a user has shown interst in one of your files. It will however be another step to download your files, and I don't know how important this is (tracking in relation to download numbers...)

 Re: right-click to save downloads
There are javascript scripts that will disable right click on web pages. I personally do not like sites implementing those. But, if tracking downloads is vital, you might try that.

 Re: right-click to save downloads
Well, those are some good tips. I don;t want to start throwing things around so I'll probably keep looking at my server stats in Awstats. That also does the job. Isn't integrated that nicely though.

Awstats and other server analytical tools are still the best ways to investigate server errors. Not a day passes that I haven't looked at them. It almost becomes a standard routine. it just gives so much extra information.

 Re: right-click to save downloads
I believe MS Gatineau can do this, by analyzing links to certain file extensions (they analyze the urls in links) and can then track media downloads. It works with the same system as theri autoTracker. Quote: MS adCenter Analytics tracks download activity through the use of download links, not file downloads from your web server. Any link that contains a file name extension considered by adCenter Analytics to be a download extension is reported as a download link. The extensions that adCenter Analytics tracks are: .arc, .arj, .asf, .asx, .avi, .bin, .doc, .exe, .gz, .gzip, .hqx, .mov, .movie, .mp2, .mp3, .mpeg, .mpg, .msi, .msp, .pdf, .ppt, .qt, .qtm, .ra, .ram, .rar, .sea, .sit, .tar, .z, .tgz, .wav, .wmv, .wpd, and .zip. To install: Quote: On each webpage that contains links to download files you want to track, in the Microsoft adCenter Analytics page-tracking script tags, paste the following before the Code: msAnalytics.TrackPage(); call: Code: msAnalytics.EnableLinkTracking(); After you have inserted the adCenter Analytics download-tracking script, your webpages might look like this: Code: <body> ... <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="http://analytics.live.com/Analytics/msAnalytics.js"> </script> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> msAnalytics.ProfileId = 'ABCD1234'; msAnalytics.EnableLinkTracking(); msAnalytics.TrackPage(); </script> </body> You can find more info on under 'Pages & Content' -> 'Media & Downloads' or by using this link: http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project= ... &format=b1Pretty cool stuff!!! Any ideas on how the javascript works?
